Credit Card Processing & Free Rate Review

Processing statements are hard to read on purpose. Interchange, assessments, markup, monthly fees, PCI fees, batch fees, statement fees — spread across three pages so the real number is hard to find. We'll find it with you, in plain language, and show you what a different structure would mean for your volume.

What this includes

  • Line-by-line review of your current statement
  • Your true effective rate, calculated and explained
  • Side-by-side comparison in real dollars at your volume
  • Interchange-plus, flat-rate and tiered structures explained
  • Cash-discount options, set up to Massachusetts rules
  • Written rate disclosure before you sign anything
  • Term and early-termination language identified up front

The honest version

The review is free and there's no obligation. Sometimes we read a statement and tell the owner they're already on a good rate — that happens, and we say so. A rate comparison is only worth anything if you believe the person doing it, and we'd rather be useful once than oversell you and lose the referral.

FAQ

Credit Card Processing & Rate Review: common questions

Is the rate review really free?

Yes, and there's no obligation to switch. Send or bring us a recent statement — ideally a full month — and we'll go through it with you. If you're already on a competitive rate we'll tell you that.

What's my 'effective rate'?

Total fees divided by total card volume for the month. It's the only number that lets you compare two offers honestly, because it captures the monthly fees and add-ons that a quoted percentage hides.

What's the difference between flat-rate and interchange-plus?

Flat-rate charges one percentage regardless of card type — simple and predictable, often more expensive at higher volume. Interchange-plus passes through the card networks' actual cost plus a disclosed markup — more transparent and usually cheaper above a certain volume, but the statement is harder to read. Which one wins depends on your volume and your card mix, which is exactly what the review determines.

Can I pass the fee on to my customers?

Not as a surcharge. Massachusetts law does not allow a seller to add a fee because a customer pays by credit card. A discount for paying by cash or check is allowed, as long as it's offered to every customer and disclosed clearly. We'll set a cash-discount program up correctly and tell you what has to be disclosed. We're not attorneys, so for a larger program it's worth running past yours.

Will I be locked into a long contract?

We'll tell you the term on any option before you sign it, including any early-termination language. If an option has a term we think is unreasonable for your situation, we'll say so.
